In this free video guitar lesson, you’ll use pentatonic scale patterns to play key parts from “Sunshine of Your Love” by Cream, featuring Eric Clapton. Follow along with the free Sunshine of Your Love guitar tab below as you learn how the iconic riff is built directly from the pentatonic framework.

This song is also a perfect introduction to the blues scale. The blues scale is simply the minor pentatonic scale with one added note—the flat fifth (♭5), often called the “blue note.” This extra note adds tension, grit, and that unmistakable blues flavor. It’s used heavily in classic rock, blues, and blues-based music, and Sunshine of Your Love is a textbook example of how guitarists weave the blue note into riffs and solos.
